A direct translation from the original Old French equité, the word equity has its Latin roots meaning “even, just, and equal.”
Equated to investment in any other class of assets, investment in equities is unquestionably riskier and undoubtedly more challenging when evaluated with respect to time. However, as goes the old adage – ‘Higher the risk, higher the returns’ –participating in equities can be far more rewarding than one can envision and at the same time prove really testing. Ever since it came into being, the world over, and even in India, stocks have outperformed every other asset class in the long run.

Mutual Funds have become extremely popular over the last two decades. What was once just another relatively unknown financial instrument is now a part of our daily lives. A mutual fund is a company that brings together a group of people and invests their money in stocks, bonds, and other securities. Each investor owns shares, which represent a portion of the holdings of the fund.
Our recommendations are based on thorough research, professional performance evaluation and fund ratings. BMD Group provides dedicated advice depending on the needs of our clientele in building a sound portfolio.
An initial public offering (IPO) refers to the process of offering shares of a private corporation to the public in a new stock issuance. An IPO allows a company to raise capital from public investors. The transition from a private to a public company can be an important time for private investors to fully realize gains from their investment as it typically includes a share premium for current private investors. Meanwhile, it also allows public investors to participate in the offering.
‘Futures and options’ is a phrase used by TV channels, web sites and in conversations for quite a notable period of time.
Simply put, a future contract is an agreement between two parties to buy or sell an asset at a certain time in the future, at a certain price. This implies that the delivery as well as the payment is not immediate.
Futures are for people who would like to buy a share some time in the future. Some people would like to buy certain shares now, but pay for them later, say after one month, two months, or more. It is basically a very simple product where one pays a nominal amount of money today and books the shares, and pays later when he or she takes the delivery.
Why do people do this? And how is this different from buying today?
Options are like the end of betting. One pays some money, a part of the total payment, and then decides if he or she wants to pay the rest or not. If your investment is going in the right direction, that is, if the market is going in the direction that you had anticipated it to go towards, then you stand to make some big money. Otherwise, you could choose not to take delivery. In this case you lose the little amount of money you put up as front payment.
